Plastic fabrication by injection moulding

 

 


 

COURSE DURATION

3 years (6 semester).

 

REQUIREMENT

1. STPM with THREE (3) principals including General Paper and Chemistry, and either Physics/Mathematics.
AND
SPM or its equivalent with at least FIVE (5) credits including Bahasa Melayu/Malaysia, Mathematics and a pass in the English Language
OR
2. Pass in the Matriculation program by BMKPM with a CGPA of at least 2.50
OR
3. Diploma in Polymer Technology, Industrial Chemistry, or Mechanical Engineering from UiTM or other institutions with a CGPA of at least 2.50
OR
4. Diploma in Polymer Technology, Industrial Chemistry, or Mechanical Engineering from UiTM or other institutions with a CGPA less than 2.50 but having at least TWO (2) YEARS working experience in the related field.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This programme emphasizes on high technology for production and manufacturing of polymers and composites. Students will be given an option to specialize in either Material Technology or Product and Process Technology. With computer Aided Design/Engineering/Manufacturing application, student will understand product design and the analysis of polymer flow. At the end of this programme, students must undertake a three month attachment programme within the polymer industry.

 

CARRIER PROSPECT AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR FURTHER STUDY

Career opportunities are in abundance in this field. Graduates may be employed in either material or product manufacturing companies, where career opportunities range from Production Manager, Operation Manager, Quality Assurance Manager or Research Officer.
Graduates from this programme may be able to follow a Masters Degree programme in the various fields offered by tertiary institutions either locally or abroad.

FACILITIES AVAILABLE

The laboratories and workshop are fully equipped with machinery, physical testing and processing equipment. The workshop is equipped with two injection moulding (will become 3 in 1999) machines, extrusion and film blowing machine, five two-roll mills, four hot-presses, ball-mill, autoclave, thermoforming machine and others.

The laboratories include physical testing laboratory, polymer chemistry laboratory and analytical laboratory. Some of the instruments available are, tensometer, Monsanto Rheometer, Melt Flow Indexer, GPC, DSC, IR, HPLC etc.
