A pass in SPM/SPM(V) with the following results:
This course is designated to provide students with training in Rubber and Plastics Technology at a sub-professional level. The scope of this training covers the principles and operation of machines, characterisation, instrumentation, fabrication processes and compounding of polymeric materials. Students are required to undergo a period of practical training in RRIM (Rubber research Institute of Malaysia) and also factory attachment in various polymer-based industries to gain industrial experience. Students who pass will be awarded TWO diplomas under joint program agreement with RRIM :-
This double diploma qualification will enhance the graduate's job opportunities in both private and public sectors.
CARRIER PROSPECT AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR FURTHER STUDY Graduates from this course can be employed in various polymer related industries as laboratory technicians, quality control officers and production supervisor. With experience and hard work they can hold posts as head of production and factory managers. Graduates are also able to further their studies in higher institutions, locally and overseas.
The laboratories and workshop are fully equipped with machinery, physical testing and processing equipment. The workshop is equipped with two injection moulding (will become 3 in 1999) machines, extrusion and film blowing machine, five two-roll mills, four hot-presses, ball-mill, autoclave, thermoforming machine and others. The laboratories include physical testing laboratory, polymer chemistry laboratory and analytical laboratory. Some of the instruments available are, tensometer, Monsanto Rheometer, Melt Flow Indexer, GPC, DSC, IR, HPLC etc.
