Historical Background
The Faculty of Applied Sciences was established in 1967 in the UiTM campus at Jalan Othman, Petaling Jaya. The Faculty started with a Diploma in Planting Industry Management programme to train personnel in management of the planting industry to serve a need for manpower in the agriculture sector at that time. This was followed by the introduction of other programmes

In 1972 the Diploma in Science course was started to replace the Higher Faculty Certificate (H.S.C.) course and placed under the administration of the Faculty of Applied Sciences. Following this, more programmes were introduced :

In 1974, the Faculty of Applied Sciences moved to Shah Alam. To increase the opportunity for students to be trained in science and technology, 'double intake' was initiated, whereby students were admitted twice a year in July and January.
Three diploma programmes were transfered to University Putra Malaysia under the directive of the Ministry of Education. (Diploma in Forestry, Animal Health & Production and Fisheries) .
In July 1992 the Advanced Diploma in Applied Chemistry programme which is equivalent to a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree was introduced. This advanced diploma programme gives an opportunity to diploma graduates from the Faculty of Applied Sciences to further their studies.
In July 1995 a new programme leading to an Advanced Diploma in Furniture Technology was offered to diploma graduates.
In 1996, seven new Allied Health programmes were offered at diploma level. These programmes are now conducted in Jalan Othman, PJ campus. The programmes are as follows:
1. Diploma in Nursing
2. Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology
3. Diploma in Medical Imaging
4. Diploma in Environmental Health
5 Diploma in Physiotherapy
6. Diploma in Occupational Therapy
7 Diploma in Pharmacy
In July 1999, two more degree programmes were offered, i.e. BSc (Hons) Textile Technology and BSc (Hons) Food Quality Management. A year later, another degree programme was offered, BSc (Hons) Environmental Technology.
The faculty is moving towards offering Medical programme soon. However, in 2001, the Faculty of Pharmacy was formed, whereby the Diploma in Pharmacy was disengaged from this faculty, leaving with six Allied Health programmes.
Currently post graduate programmes by research at M.Sc and PhD levels are being offered in various fields of Science and Technology.
Now this Faculty offered as many as 14 Diploma and 7 Degree programmes with a total enrolment of over 2500 students distributed over 8 campuses.
